Ascomycete Systematics Research GroupWe are an international group of around 20 researchers and students, which makes us one of the world's largest teams in our field. Our expertise includes all aspects of systematics and our strength is in efficient combining of these aspects. Our principal goal is to enhance the expertise in systematics (taxonomy), that is life´s history in its very essence. We study the evolutionary history of ascomycete fungi. Ascomycetes include about 33 000 species worldwide and they are among the oldest terrestrial groups of organisms. We also study the evolution of fungal lifestyles as well as the interactions of fungi with their numerous hosts. Our specialties are lichen symbioses and epibryophytic microfungi. We have particular expertise in the most modern methodology, including molecular and phylogenetic analyses. We offer several research topics for theses and welcome new students who are interested in fungal systematics. Within these pages we offer information on our current research projects, publications, teaching, activity, and hopefully also many useful links and news. The world of fungi is annoyingly cryptic but very fascinating. ContactAscomycete Systematics Research GroupBotanical Museum phone +358 9 1911 (Exchange) for e-mail addresses, see Contact |
