The taxidermy team

The function of the taxidermy team is to preserve and care for the vertebrate specimens in the scientific collections of the Finnish Museum of Natural History (FMNH). The taxidermists prepare and maintain the permanent displays in proper order in conjunction with the exhibition team and participate in the preparation of touring exhibitions. The team also can give education in taxidermy. The number of personnel is currently six and the head of the team is Chief Taxidermist Ari Puolakoski.

The work of the taxidermy team can also be seen in other institutions. For example the team has renovated part of the dioramas of the Biological Museum of Turku. Many animals on display in the Arctic Centre in Rovaniemi also bear the hallmark of the FMNH taxidermists.
