Prerequisites: No formal prerequisites, but basic knowledge of botany recommended.

Aim: Students will get an extensive overview of the work and role of botanic gardens in the third millennium and gain understanding on the challenges and possibilities of living scientific plant collections. Those willing to deepen their insight and receive one to two extra credit points may extend the course by participating in the international congress EuroGard V, to be held in Helsinki June 8th–12th, 2009.

Literature: Material provided during lectures.

Exams and evaluation: Written exam on lectures and literature provided.

Scale 0–5. Extension (1–2 points): participation in EuroGard V and written report on participation.

Exam dates: May 14th, repeat date to be announced later.
