EntomologyEntomological research in the museum is focused on taxonomy and systematics, that is, on describing and naming organisms, and discovering their phyletic relationships, with the main goal being their classification. Monitoring Finnish fauna is also an important function. Annual variations in populations of various species have been followed actively during past decades. The staff of the two entomological teams also act as experts in projects aimed at monitoring the threatened species of Finland. Thousands of samples are dealt with each year. Research projects
