Notes on Achillea millefolium

A. millefolium L., morph (Finland, Kisko, Orjanperä, 1970). Image: Harri Harmaja (scanned from dried specimen). This plant with small, erect, extremely narrow leaves was found in human-influenced habitat by lakeshore. The soils are calcareous, close to limestone outcrops. Species that occur near-by include Carex pallens (found later) and Lathyrus linifolius. A. millefolium (Asteraceae) has been studied actively especially in eastern Central Europe and has turned out to be an aggregate of closely related species at different ploidy levels.
