Carex elongata L., typical (Finland, Äänekoski, Kevätlahti, 1968; on the left) and a morph (Finland, Lohja, Ojamo,
1987; three inflorescences on the right).
– Image: Harri Harmaja (scanned from dried specimens).
– The Lohja plant deviates from typical C. elongata (Cyperaceae):
the plant is smaller and more slender, the leaves are narrower, the
inflorescence (due to its components) is greener, the inflorescence and the
spikes are shorter also in proportion to their widths, and the perigynia are
narrower.
One tall tuft of the deviating plant was found, occurring among typical C.
elongata. The habitat was a springy spruce-hardwood swamp with somewhat
calcareous soils; accompanying species also included Carex remota (now
extinct) and Poa remota. I also know two additional occurrences of this
morph of C. elongata in Lohja.
