Notes on Centaurium sp.

Centaurium aff. pulchellum (Swartz) Druce (Finland, Helsinki, Lauttasaari, 1994). Image: Harri Harmaja (scanned from dried specimen). These plants differ from C. pulchellum (Gentianaceae): (i) the plants are all very tiny, 1.5-3.5 cm in length, (ii) the calyx is only slightly shorter than the corolla tube, (iii) the corolla lobes are very narrow, (iv) the corolla lobes are white, and (v) the anthers are smaller, almost globose. These plants grew among typical, differently sized plants of C. pulchellum in a seashore meadow. For other neighbouring plant species, see Potentilla anserina ssp. egedii.
