A deviating stand of plants of the aggregate of E. palustre L. (Onagraceae) were found by me in Lohja, Kokkila, in 1987. Both surfaces of the leaves (the midribs included) were glabrous, the only hairs present being restricted to the margins of the leaves. The leaves studied originated from the upper half of the stem; non-glandular arched hairs were concerned. A stand of this morph grew aside a stand of typical E. palustre – studied for comparison – in the same ditch, fed by spring-water, at the margin of moist rich woods, among Carex canescens and C. loliacea; the soils are fairly calcareous. The taxonomic relevance of the present morph requires clarification as the leaves of typical Finnish E. palustre are almost always hairy, besides their margins, also on the upper surface and along the midrib of the abaxial surface (Kytövuori, I. 1979: Biosystematics and taxonomy of Epilobium laestadii sp. nova (Onagraceae) in Fennoscandia. – Ann. Bot. Fennici 16: 193-207.).
