Notes on Epilobium sp. 4

Epilobium sp. (Finland, Helsinki, Pasila, 1988). Image: Harri Harmaja (scanned from dried specimen). The leaves of this unknown species of Epilobium (Onagraceae) have distinct petioles and are broadest roughly at their middle as in E. roseum Schreb. The upper part of the stem, or the inflorescence axis is zigzag twisted! The seeds have a short neck and are beset with warts in rows; they resemble those of the adenocaulon/ciliatum group rather than those of E. roseum. The habitat was somewhat disturbed soils by a small ditch in woods, near roadside, railway and very lively logistics activities; moreover the site is situated at the margin of a previous large rubbish dump. No doubt the plant is an immigrant from somewhere outside northern Europe. Who knows this plant?
