Notes on Hepatica nobilis

Hepatica nobilis Miller f. multiloba (C.Hartm.) (Finland, Nurmijärvi, Perttula, 1998). Image: Harri Harmaja (scanned from dried specimen). This form differs from typical H. nobilis (Ranunculaceae) in that the leaf blade is seven-lobed: the two lowest primary lobes are in turn two-lobed, and the apical primary lobe is (indistinctly, at times) three-lobed. The basal lobes may be overlapping. Forms with doubly lobed leaves are not infrequent in Finland.
