Notes on Pulmonaria sp. 2

Pulmonaria sp. (Finland, Lohja, Lieviö, 1993) in late spring/early summer aspect with two withering flowering stems and five summer leaves. Image: Harri Harmaja (scanned from dried specimen). – This morph differs from typical P. obscura (Boraginaceae) in that the blade of all summer leaves is cuneate to ovate. In typical P. obscura, the lamina of the tallest, main summer leaves is (somewhat narrowly) cordate (however, the smaller oldest and youngest leaves of a rosette may be cuneate). This is the only place where I have observed this kind of Pulmonaria. The habitat was rich brookside forest at the edge of cut area; a few individuals were found within a dense stand of typical P. obscura. The flora of the same very interesting brookside also comprises Carex rhynchophysa, Glyceria lithuanica and Tilia cordata. The present morph probably represents the variability of P. obscura. The name P. officinalis L. f. stenophylla Lange may apply to it.
