Notes on Vicia tetrasperma

Vicia tetrasperma (L.) Schreber, morph (Fabaceae) (Finland, Lohja, Virkkala, 1960). Image: Harri Harmaja (scanned from dried specimen). This curious plant cannot be named appropriately. It differs from typical V. tetrasperma through the leaves which only have two (very rarely three) pairs of leaflets and the pods that only contain two seeds. The stipules and leaflets are as in V. tetrasperma, likewise the pods are glabrous. It does not represent the two-seeded species V. hirsuta (L.) Gray or V. disperma DC.
